Salt Lake capoeira
Salt Lake Capoeira shares the vibrant Afro-Brazilian art form of capoeira through regular classes for kids and adults, community outreach, and performances. It’s led by Volta Miúda Capoeira group founder, Mestre Jamaika (Mauro Romualdo), who brings his expertise from Northeastern Brazil where capoeira originated.
Capoeira was forged over centuries by enslaved Africans in Brazil who trained to fight their oppressors while disguising it as a dance. This “dance-like fight” of mixes martial arts, music, dance, acrobatics, and culture as it brings people together to share positivity through movement and community.
