Celebrating Capoeira: 2025 Batizado & Living Traditions Festival in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake Capoeira celebrated its 2025 Batizado in conjunction with the Living Traditions Festival, thanks to support from the Salt Lake City Arts Council and the Salt Lake City Mayor’s ACE (Arts, Culture, and Entertainment) Grant. The weekend was filled with vibrant performances, workshops, and community connection, blending the energy of our annual Batizado with the cultural showcase of Living Traditions. As part of the festival’s Youth Day, Mestre Jamaika and our Salt Lake Capoeira team taught and performed capoeira with hundreds of elementary school students from across Salt Lake City. The celebrations continued with our public performances at Washington Square, including a special appearance at the Mayor and City Council’s kickoff event for the festival. It was a powerful weekend of Afro-Brazilian culture, community engagement, and capoeira in the heart of SLC.
